Podcast Review- My Dad Wrote a Porno

I’ll be honest, I don’t want to be writing right now. All I want to do is lay in my bed and listen to episode 6 of My Dad Wrote a Porno. When I latch on to something I love, I’m fanatical about it. Almost to the point, I become annoying to family and friends:

“Just watch Schitt’s Creek and I can still be your friend. Oh, and also The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

“Read People I Want to Punch in the Throat if you wish to stay on good terms.”

When I’m obsessed with something, I figure out every way to work my recommendation into the conversation, and obviously this blog. I understand people have different tastes in humor. But often times, I immaturely become offended if people not only A. Don’t try my suggestion and B. Don’t like my suggestion. Yes, it’s completely juvenile but I’d be lying if I told you otherwise.

My Dad Wrote a Porno Podcast Synopsis

So here’s the deal, Jamie Morton’s 60-year-old father wrote an erotic series, Belinda Blinked under the pen name Rocky Flintstone. During a family get together, Jamie’s father handed him a few chapters of the novel to read. Not the best parenting move, but who am I to judge? In lieu of rocking back and forth and sucking his thumb in fetal position, Jamie decided to bring the good word to the world. And friends, Jamie has made the world a better place.

With the help of 2 friends, James Cooper and Alice Levine, Jamie reads a chapter of Belinda Blinked on each episode while pausing to discuss. This discussion is half the fun, listening to the banter between the three. Had Jamie not had both James and Alice, I’m unsure if this would have been the phenomenon it is today. Both Jamie and Alice add their own unique comedic take on each part!

What also makes it so damn funny is it’s written pretty badly. I’m not claiming to be a grammar queen but my God, you occasionally wonder if Mr. Flinstone was drunk while writing. There are commas placed in odd places while sometimes a paragraph is just one sentence.

Belinda Blinked Synopsis

Rocky Flintstone brings us into the world of Steeles Pots and Pans. The antagonist Belinda Blumenthal, is the worldwide Sales Director of this organization. Belinda navigates her way through corporate England and sales while having romps with most of the people she comes into contact with. And, it’s not uncommon for these romps to take place in public places with equally naked women and men. I don’t want to give away the plot (or lack thereof), but it’s like the author combined the mind of a teenage virgin and a standard employee handbook.

Additionally, words and phrases that should never be put together are, including:

• “Nipple tips”
• “And chewed his testicles”
• “Penetrated her cervix”

Really, you just sit there, looking around the room in disbelief, like you just watched a Marilyn Manson video or something. You try to wrap your head around the fact that someone actually thought this entire book up!
