Are you guys as relieved as I am that Christmas is over? Now don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love Christmas. I love the lights, the tree, the Christmas music and all the food. I’m relieved it’s over because I made it through another Christmas where both sons were happy with their gifts, my husband was happy and I didn’t forget anyone.
That being said, I have two reoccurring dreams (aka nightmares) throughout the year. One is that I didn’t accumulate enough credits to graduate college and the second one? That it’s Christmas eve and I have bought absolutely no gifts. Upon waking, I always challenge myself with this question: If I truely forgot to shop for Christmas, could I give my family a nice Christmas by shopping at the local 24-hour gas station? The answer is no, absolutely not.
What I Got for Christmas
I wasn’t forgotten either. My oldest son made me 2 rings by using the jewelry wire in my craft room. Sure, he waited till December 23rd but my husband said he had worked on them for 2 hours. In my mind, the thought and time are what I value most when it comes to gifts from my sons. One of the 2 rings is on the left.
My youngest, on the other hand, had no gift for me until noon on Christmas eve. Despite his better judgment, my husband took him to Target to remedy this. When they asked what to get me and I said costume jewelry, I might as well have said a rare perfume infused with baby laughter because they looked at me like a deer in headlights. I then walked to my craft room, brought Target up and began to put costume jewelry in my bag, printed it out, highlighted my favorites and handed it to them! Here’s what I got:
Television
I got a television for my craft/writing room from my husband and the best part? It was only $99:
My Schitt’s Creek Necklace
So Alexis always wears an A necklace and since my name happens to start with an A, my husband got me this one. I absolutely love it! I got my sister one too with an S.
400 Writing Prompts
This was the most thoughtful gift from my sister. We’ve come a long way from her finding out about my blog. She’s extremely supportive and that’s one of the many things I love about her. That being said, she got me this amazing book with actual, great prompts. I’ve seen a lot of writing prompts out there and they suck. They’re like, “what is your favorite tea and why?” C’mon man, we can do better and this book does just that.
Cricut EasyPress
Do you guys know how I said my craft room is a sweatshop? I made it more so when my husband gifted me the Cricut EasyPress. I actually used it before Christmas then announced that that would be a Christmas present to me.
And I got some other wonderful gifts but these were my top ones! Now it’s your turn! What did you get? What was your favorite gift you received? Did you get a WTF gift? If you did, I want to hear about it!

Christmas this year was just bleh for me. I’m not sure why I felt bleh but I just did. I didn’t get too many presents because I didn’t ask for anything – I literally just wanted clothes for work so I asked for gift cards. But I felt like I set myself up for being annoyed before I even got here to my parents’ house so maybe that’s why?
So my mom and dad got me gift cards lol my dad went a little overboard and got me enough for christmas and my birthday in just Visa cards, my mom got me one for the store I asked for and then added in a hand knitted scarf/hat//mittens in a colour she says is “my colour” but I will never wear them because I don’t like them. She already took the hat back because it’s a hat and I hate hats and they pull my wig off when I take them off if they are snug (this one is) so I literally have ONE slouchy hat I will wear if I know I’m just going out and coming back home. My brother doesn’t do gift cards so he got me a dehumidifier which is also an essential oils diffuser. I had spent the last few days telling him how scents give me headaches, I was like “ok….not using these” lol but I opened the box and smelled them and they seem mild enough to give them a try. Next year if I just want clothes I’ll just post the actual items I want in my list lol that way maybe I’ll be a l it the more excited? But my brother does want to go gift less next year so we will see what happens ?♀️
Totally been where you’ve been, just feeling bleh and what you asked for, didn’t help matters. I get it. And what is your “colour” according to your mother? My mom always said mine is green. I think that would be a good idea next year, to print out exactly what you are looking for. Perhaps you’ll have more holiday spirit next week for the New Year! Cheers friend!
Yeah – I think the fact that I wasn’t excited for gifts, because I didn’t ask for any, added to the overall feeling of bleh. Next year definitely will do more of a list if we do gifts.
My mom used this super bright baby pinky/orange? Just no. But I have never agreed with anything my mom picks out for me. Even that one time she bought me a “diamond bracelet”, sure it was pretty but nothing I would EVER wear. She even told me before I opened it “if it’s not your style I’ll take it” and then she got angry that I didn’t like it? ?♀️ ugh lol but that’s just issues I have with her lol
My best and favorite gift this year was another Christmas spent with my family. I’m at a point in my life that there aren’t any “things” I want. A couple Barnes and Noble gift cards, a small bottle of my favorite perfume, nothing major or big. I do look forward to a calendar my daughter-in-law has made for me every year. She takes pictures throughout the year of the grandkids and special occasions and those pictures are the cover of each month of the year. This year I received a wooden bowl my son made, his first attempt at wood working. It’s my new candy dish.
Oh wow, a wooden bowl? That’s amazing! I do love homemade gifts. I think it’s wonderful how much you value another year of Christmas with family. That really is priceless and can’t be bought!
My husband got me a Fossil watch I’ve been drooling over. It’s all black and it’s a hybrid smartwatch, so it looks like a regular watch, but it tracks my steps and vibrates when I get messages on my phone and such. So cool!
This year my hubs, my brother, my dad, and I all pitched in to send mom on a cruise as her present. Of course cruising all alone isn’t fun, so we’re all going with her (except for dad; he doesn’t do boats), so that’s kind of another present for me… 🙂
I’m so glad you elaborated about everyone going b/c I was like “wait…is the woman going alone?” LOL! That is so awesome what your husband got you! I’ve seen those watches and they are really super cool. Happy New Year!
Same to you, my friend. 🙂
