Very rarely do I ever classify something under the best things in life are free. Sure, my children are awesome and seeing them smile makes my heart skip a beat. But let’s be real, kids are definitely NOT free. Am I right? When people say they don’t shop at Ikea, they usually give you a reason and/or a timeline of when they did shop at Ikea. Which is really just a disguised insult. Don’t worry, we know you didn’t catch it. I hear things like…..
I used to shop there in my twenties ‘And obviously that’s when you stopped buying nice looking clothes too.’
or
I just don’t want it to fall apart. ‘Then put the fucking thing together appropriately and it won’t fall apart.’
or
It’s all too modern for me. ‘What are you Amish? Are you doing a Laura Ingalls Wilder look?’ Sure, a good portion of their stuff is modern but there is A TON of stuff that isn’t modern looking at all.
I digress. Yesterday, we actually got our mail the same day that the mail woman had dropped it off. I was so excited to see that hipster on the cover; rockin’ his Jesus beard, next to tiny little random loaves of bread. I have a love affair of Ikea. I repeat, I LOVE IKEA!
People who pretend to hate Ikea are the same people who lie and say they never eat fast food. I want to tell those people where to go and it’s not Pottery Barn. My Ikea furniture has held up amazingly well. Why spend the extra money if you simply don’t need to? I am amazed even if I walk into someplace like Value City Furniture and an ottoman is $200! Are you kidding me?
If you want to buy an armoire at Pottery Barn, that would cost you $600+ alone and that’s just at the outlet. I know this because I bought one over a decade ago. Hell I can’t even afford Pottery Barn Outlet let alone the actual store. My best purchase ever was 2 armoires at Ikea for a grand total of $300!
To back everything I have said I have included a gallery of many of my Ikea purchases. Sorry, I didn’t stage my rooms for this blog. Enjoy!
P.S. Yes, my bedroom really is pink. I told my husband I would want to have sex more often if we painted our bedroom that color. Sorry….even today I can’t read that sentence without laughing my ass off.
I LOVE ikea!! My brother does too. Although sometimes I know people who can go a little bit toooo far with their Ikea obsession. A former BFF of mine, her brother got married and his new wife insisted that EVERY SINGLE piece of furniture in their new apartment was from Ikea. No family purchases from other stores, thank you very much! Ikea. And Ikea only. Apparently their apartment looked identical to the catalog.
You know what I thought you were going to say? That this former bff got married in an Ikea. Do you have them in Korea? How far is it from you in Canada?
LOL! hilarious! As far as I know there are no Ikea’s in Korea. But I’m not 100% sure on that. In Canada, its like twoish hours away to a main store? There is a pickup store much closer – maybe only 45 mins to an hour away. But also remember, that’s from my parent’s house (which is technically my “permanent address” right now) and they live in the middle of no where.
My closest Ikea is Cincinnati which is about 3 hrs away.
oh no!! That’s horrible!! My brother lives in Ottawa, he moved at the beginning of the summer but before that he lived less than TEN MINS away from one! Omg we went every time I visited him lol
I want to live in an Ikea and eat meatballs with that dingleberry sauce…or whatever they call it.
Me too! My brother and I have dinner there every time I visit him lol. I can’t even image the joy of possibly living in Ottawa when I return to Canada
Our Ikea is set to open here in 2017. I will be 35 to 45 min away from one. All my dreams are coming true…
Oh fantastic!! We were told there was going to be one opening in London, Ontario (an hour drive from my house) and then we found out it was only a pick up store for online orders…
What are these pick up stores? I’ve never heard of them.
Just a store that your items will be shipped to and then you go and pick up your order. Instead of paying for delivery I guess? Or instead of having to drive 3 hours to a store, the store can transfer inventory to the pick up location for you. Kind of like how you have Sears pick ups in hardware stores in small towns lol
There is absolutely no fun in that!
Yeah I know!
Ikea is AMAZING!! I’m obsessed with the organization/storage stuff.
Ummm…thank you, I know! I have a ton of those media boxes.
Have you been to The Container Store? I got a little teary-eyed the first time I went there… LOL
Lol!! I have and love it but its pretty pricy, no?
Definitely can’t afford but maybe 1-2 things at a time but some of their stuff is made a lot better. Their plastic shoe storage boxes are perfect. They aren’t rounded on the bottom corners so they stack really nicely. To your point though I don’t own any because they’re pricy. 🙂
Good post, at long last someone confessed about their Ikea obsession 🙂 I love it, too. For ten years, when my ex husband and I moved places on a regular base due to job requirements, I had Ikea stuff only (except for the washer). To be able to take it all apart again and build it up anew. And I have to say: even after eight or so moves, taking everything apart and rebuild it elsewhere, the furniture still was in good order and also looked fine. And if a part or skrew went missing, no problem: just go to the next IKEA store (of which there a many in Europe) and get replacement. Most of the time even free of charge at the service point.
EXACTLY! Wow, Ikea really needs to be offering us a spokesman fee at this point. We are really sellin’ it here!
I love Ikea too. My best friend can put anything together. He brings over his drill and assembles everything. I’ve had no problem with it breaking. If you put it together correctly it lasts.
Exactly! Stuff falls apart when you abuse it, as you said: don’t put it together properly or don’t maintenance it.
IKEA=LOVE
You my friend have just invented an equation that is on par with M=mc2. 😉 Brillant!
