As I got ready in my hotel room this morning, I had the news on for background noise. A story caused my ears to perk up: A team of scientist passed human safety tests in a 28-day trial of a male birth control pill. They also boasted that during this 28-day trial, none of the guys dropped out from side-effects.
At first I was confused. Had men started giving birth and this was a thing now? I had heard of one guy getting a sex-change operation and he was considered the first male to give birth. I don’t know if I got that right. Not considering condoms, it never dawned on me that in the future, guys could be in charge of birth control.
But is male birth control a good idea?
Now, since I’m married with children, having to worry about birth control is long gone. If this came around when I needed to worry about birth control, I’ll be honest, I don’t know if I’m confident in you remembering to take it. Is that how you always feel about women?

I won’t bore you with the science behind this medical breakthrough. Just know its super boring and lost my attention after the first 2 sentences. What I will tell you is there are side effects, including:
- acne
- headaches
- lower sex drive
- fatigue
- weight gain
And I swear to God, if they don’t continue with this pill because of the above side effects, I will absolutely loose my shit! All the above is just a typical day for any woman on birth control. If we can handle it, so can men.
What’s funny is 3 of the men who were on a placebo pill, had some side-effect complaints. You know what that is? That’s good old fashion man cold.
As a teen, I had a friend who went to Planned Parenthood for birth control. You had to go down the stairs to a seedy doctors office that had Looney Tune pot holders on the stir-ups of the examining tables. Now would teen boys be in charge of going to Planned Parenthood for birth control? Are they going to have to get a similar test like we would have to get?
“We’ll give you the goods but only after you agree to a pap smear. No pap, no pill.”
The Future of Birth Control
And where do guys keep their birth control? Their European Man Sack? This is all very new to me. I didn’t even consider that a male birth control pill was even an option for humanity. It was if I always figured women would ALWAYS have to monitor/control birth control. I wonder if we’ll get those super cheesy drug commercials of males doing various vibrant acts while on their birth control. They’ll like meet each other in those paint and sip wine parties. Perhaps they’ll volunteer at a pet adoption event (all in somewhat slow motion of course). Or they’ll meet each other at the mall and comb through the White House Black Market store.
Do you see what I’m getting at? We are a very, very, long way from this situation. It really changes the way we think about birth control. In my mind, I have all the above scenarios (and then some), running through my brain, laughing my ass off.
I get where you’re at with this and it’s an old argument, personally I think they had already thought of this it’s there as another kind of layer of protection. No single method can be relied upon 100%

I think men should have to take birth control! Lol it’s their part of sex that makes the baby! A woman can have sex as many times as she wants and nothing from her body will result in someone else getting pregnant lol
Yes….its a very interesting debate. But like laundry, cooking, etc., my guess it will continue to fall on the woman. 🙁

I would love to see those commercials!!! But on the matter of a man trusting his female partner to take her birth control… my cousin (male) was in the military. He and his on-again-off-again girlfriend decided to get married for the simple fact that SHE wanted to relocate with and live on base with him. They got married and she started having baby fever. He didn’t think having kids was a good idea at the time since they kind of rushed into marriage and he had a lot going on work wise, so you know what this spoiled brat did?? She stopped taking birth control and didn’t tell her freakin’ husband!! Everything worked out for the best, but still…. how fucked up is that!? I’d say the sooner male birth control is a thing, the better, especially because of these kinds of situations.
Oh man…you bring up an amazing point. Gone would be the trouble of women entrapping men via a baby. I cannot believe that woman did that to your cousin. What a jerk! I’m glad it worked out however.
I get where you are coming from with if woman can do it so can men, however when the female pill came about, th aim was to get it out as fast as possible, there were very little trials actually done to see the effect.
What we should be doing is making them go back and start looking at the female pill again
Yes, they should. Or at least look at it to reduce the side effects. I used to gain weight horribly on the shot.
They need to start as though it was new, with the proper tests that are now in place, there is no reason why they can’t, except it will cost a shit ton of money to say they were wrong, it will actually do more to say men should be responsible for birth control and you know its not always a woman’s fault for not being able to take this magic wonder drug because it can make us feel like utter shit

Honestly, you’d think most men would be enough birth control for women…most of the guys I meet totally turn me on, but once they open their mouth, I lose interest. 🙂
