I hope I have a bunch of parents read this and I want comments but I’m pissed off and disgusted and I’m going to tell you all about it. Lucky you. Be prepared for some f’bombs.
Back in December, a town about 30 minutes from here (Lancaster), put on a drag queen show for charity. Fabulous! I fuckin’ love drag queens. The world is better because we have drag queens. And because it’s for charity, rock on croutons.
But my beef isn’t with the drag queens. It’s with a set of parents of a 10-year-old child. You know what? I’m not going to say anything just yet. I want you guys to watch the video for yourself and then we can discuss:
Facts
- This is a 10-year-old child
- The child is wearing a revealing outfit
- He is wearing heels
- He is dancing provocatively
- The child is collecting dollar bills, resembling the behavior of a stripper
- He’s at bar with drinking patrons, around midnight
But you’ll love this, in lieu of the mayor of the town condemning the behavior of the parents, he takes offense to the parody page that posted this video:
All I kept thinking about was my 10-year-old son whom I ensure is in bed at 9 PM on school nights then I don’t care what time he goes to sleep on the weekends because he’s usually tuckered out by 10 PM anyway.
Look, I get it if you’re at a fuckin’ Olive Garden and you wait like 45 minutes and you’re eating dinner at 8:30. But this is so fuckin’ wrong to have your kid at a bar, around midnight, taking “tips” from patrons.
Pissed, I wrote this on the Mayor’s page:

So why am I so admit about this? Why are fighters, like Melissa Ackison fighting for this child? Not only is he being exploited but it’s important to mention that this child’s stepfather is a sexual offender. Not to mention, public figures aren’t doing enough for this kid.
Look, this is a humor blog but I know what is right and wrong. For shit like this, I need help. Please send a message to this mayor to shut this business down and to protect this precious child. If I can use my platform to help him, that is what I’m gonna do.

Obviously you know I’m a member of the LGBT community, but I am in complete agreement with you. Unfortunately, people have crossed boundaries that should never be crossed and I think far too many people are “okaying” everything to the detriment of children. What ever happened to allowing children to express themselves in their own, natural, way. No, sadly, this behavior has been imposed on this poor kid.
I am so glad you see this post is about protecting an innocent child! And the fact that the mayor does not speak out against this baffles me. If you have an extra few minutes, I would love for you to write the mayor or post on his Facebook page. It’s obviously going to take a village to get this child out of future “appearances”. I also encourage spreading the word, anyway you can!

I’m all for allowing children to experiment with their feelings/looks/gender, but this is just wrong….
Exactly! A child, is a child is a child and that child does not belong in a bar at midnight, dancing provocatively in a skimpy outfit among drinking patrons. I am encouraging everyone to drop a really quick note to the mayor to apply pressure to protect this child!

Okay, I was actually fine with the outfit (because it’s a costume and frankly gymnasts wear much less when they compete) and while the dance was… yeah… you can’t make kids that age enthusiastically perform like that (this is not a Little Miss Whatever pageant) unless they’re into it.
Then the dollahs came out and that’s GROSS. Not because there’s anything wrong with stripping, or dancing for cash, but because they deliberately mimicked a strip club vibe and transaction for the grown-ass humans who were being whipped into a frenzy at a child. Not okay. Not okay for the kid, not okay for the adults, not okay for the bar… nobody came away that night without a thick film of gross on them.
This is the problem with sexualizing children: children are not sexual. So when you dress them up and present them to an audience (at a bar, on tv, in a magazine, online) as sexual people you are not really changing the nature of the child; you are attempting to alter the perception of adults. In order to… what? What is the end goal of getting a grown-ass human to see a child as a sexual being?
That, in my opinion, is the question these people need to be answering right now.
Ok, this went to my spam and no idea why. Sorry! Everything you are saying is right and your point about attempting to alter the perception of the adult is very valid and concerning. And what pisses me off is everyone with the authority is stating everything is legal and there is nothing they can do. I am disgusted by all of this and to this day, that mayor never responded to my Facebook comment. Shame on everyone that had a hand in this!
