Ok, perhaps because I’m 41, I don’t know all of the texting abbreviations. Because I love to write (and again, maybe it’s my age), you should see my texts. I pride myself on my use of uppercase letters, punctuation and spelling. Now granted, when I drive and talk my text, they do come out a little funky but even then, I end every sentence stating “period” or “explanation mark”. When I need a pause when talking my text, I even say “comma”. These whipper snappers have a language all to their own. Ok, I’m just kidding, I didn’t mean that but that’s how I feel admitting my lack of knowledge of texting abbreviations.
Enter my 13-year-old son. After 2 texts, he finally presented me a list of the most used text abbreviations among kids his age. Nay, what he allows me to believe are the only texts he uses.

Full disclosure, I have been working on bringing you a free print out of these texts for the past 2 hours. I keep getting an http error. Being that it’s after 11, I’ve decided to turn in. Tomorrow morning I will try again.
Same here! Have had no idea what my kids messages have meant for last decade!! Like you I write texts properly and emails like a letter – oh, Mum why do you write so much?! But the dangerous abbreviations are the serious side – sad there has to be one ?
Yes Claire, it is sad. I didn’t know about 70% of these until I researched it. I’m going to try to get the free printable added to the blog post today. I don’t know if WordPress was down or what but I couldn’t get it to add. It really is a cool little credit card size reference for all things texts. You can even impress your friends and use one of these. They’ll be like, “what does SMH mean?” and you’ll be like “shaking my head”, duh! LOL!!
Oh dang!! I’m sorry that you didn’t get it to work but glad you got your post up! Best of luck getting the printout to work!
Well thank you for listening to my texting rants last night about this issue! I am going to try again. Do your kiddlets have phones? If so, I’d be interested to learn their abbreviations and if they are similar to any of the ones I wrote in this post!
they all have an ipod now. Horrible choice really because they just have their faces in it ALL DAY. And no problem about listening to your rants! I’ve got you, Boo! xoxo <3
An ipod? Yeah, that seems to be the natural progression. First an Ipod then a phone. Parker had this janky, Sony phone as his first phone. This was after the salesman convinced us that it was “more popular then the IPhone in Japan.” Now both boys have Iphones. I however am forever in love with my Samsung Note!
I think the kids wont be getting cell phones anytime soon. At least I hope not. They already spend way too much time on technology
The one good thing about them having cell phones (and this is if they care to even communicate) is you can get a hold of them anywhere they are at. Sure, I’ve had to threaten groundation if they don’t respond but they did eventually.
Haha nice! These kids don’t get grounded but the ipods are great for communication. The kids can email and/or use apps to communicate. It’s great. Unless it’s 10:45 and I get an email from 2nd asking me to bring my nail stuff the next day to do her nails. Like go to sleep already haha
It’s a whole other world!!! I still use punctuation, too. I know it dates me but whatever.
Then we have folks on the other end of the spectrum. The ones that text me and they don’t check the text before sending. It’s like a toddler wrote it. It infurites me when I have to waste time and go back and say, I don’t understand this.
Ummm…that would be my husband… My favorite so far: “For a that include bed tome?” I wanted to joke that grammar counts for that, too, but I’m not sure he’d think it was funny.
Ya know, texts like these could be an entire blog post!
Right??? But my honey is a pretty good trickster, I’d be worried about the repercussions!
You know that LMFAO doesn’t mean that… 😉
This made me laugh, there’s so many in here I don’t know, but my kids have changed the language… I fear you might be too late lol
Look! What does LMFAO mean then?
Look?
Think about the f… Laugh my fxxxxxx ass off ?
You know, your right! I’ve seen it both ways actually.
