Year Million

Year Million

I am obsessed with a new show on the Nat Geo channel called Year Million. I’m not afraid to admit I am a complete nerd and LOVE stuff like this. I went to Space Camp several times as a kid and wanted to be an astronaut. I would put my phone in my arm if I could and I somehow once convinced a boss to purchase Google glass just so I could play with it. He was a dumb ass obviously.

Year Million Overview

There are 6 episodes I think and I’ve seen 1.5. I’m not particularly happy that my on demand makes me start from the very beginning if I can’t complete an entire show, but I guess that’s the sacrifice I pay for living in 2017. It’s not really about the year million. It’s about basically living in the future, the technology happening right now to get us there and what it may be like hundreds of years from now. And let me tell you, it’s some fucked up shit.

They interview several people throughout the show ranging from a futuristic comedian (didn’t even know that was a thing) to scientists. Weaved into the show is occasional shots of a family of 3 we are following through each episode and how they essentially deal with the technology.

Living Forever

This episode is amazing and leaves me thinking, ‘would I live forever?’ And the answer is, hell yeah I would! I’m scared shitless to die. I don’t ever want to die. But I digress.

So their teen daughter dies and the parents make the decision to upload her brain into a computer and I think make her a robot? I don’t know, I was 3 glasses of Cabernet in when this happened. I’ll have to go back and look.

So apparently they are working on micro size robots that will enter our blood stream to fix mutations and things that age us. The family I mentioned, the mom, was celebrating her 300th birthday.

The thing that blew my mind was how scientist are working on how to upload the brain to the cloud. They’ve already figured out how to upload memories into mice. Which side note, how do they know it worked? The mice aren’t like “Hey, Dr. Monreau I totally remember Bob getting the treat now in lieu of the shock!”

So that’s where I’m at now. If you check it out, you’ll have to tell me what you think. If I can steal the tv this evening from my husband, I’m going to be all over that. No wait….it’s tiny house night. Nope, I’ll be watching the other thing I’m obsessed with-tiny houses. I live such a glamorous life.
