Adulting Lesson #1: Aerating a Bottle of Wine

aerating wine

I like wine, red wine to be exact. After finding a great article in Forbes magazine that slapped a seal of approval on Black Box Wines that became my table wine. But there are many bottled wines I enjoy drinking. Being that I’m 41, I thought perhaps it might be time to adult and use a wine aerator.

“What the hells a wine aerator Hot Mess?”

aeratorIt’s one of those little things that makes your wine better. A wine aerator attachs to the wine bottle. When you pour, the aerator pushes air through a funnel that enables a pressurized force of oxygen to mix with the wine. You could do this with a wine decanter but let’s be real, we want that wine in our mouths and we want it stat!

I won’t go into all the boring scientific stuff that happens when aerating wine, I’ll just tell you what you need to know. Aerating wine does 2 things:

  1. Releases the crap we don’t want to taste.
  2. Enhances the good stuff we do want to taste.

Where to buy a wine aerator?

You could go and spend way too much at a fancy kitchen store but why be stupid? I found one on Amazon for under $10, by K-Effect and it made the wine taste far better than it would without it. Click HERE if you want to take your adulting to the next level. For under $10 you can effortlessly look like you know what you’re doing, even if you don’t have a single clue. It’s also a great item to add with wine when you give as a gift.

The one I bought is great! One of my biggest concerns was if the spout would fit in the mouth of the bottle. I had visions of not being able to get it in (that’s what he said), then throwing the bottle of wine across the room. It fit perfectly! I was also scared my first attempt would result in spilling wine absolutely everywhere. That too did not happen.

So that was your first adult lesson. Mine too actually. I had to research the benefits of the wine aerator. I even had to test it out. Why wasn’t school more like this?
